Agriculture Minister Raghavjibhai Patel highlighted the potential of urban horticulture development in the state’s cities and the lack of skilled gardeners in these areas. To meet these needs, the government has decided to train youth in horticulture skills to create self-employment opportunities in urban horticulture. The minister shared these details while discussing the scheme.

Minister Patel announced that the Horticulture Department of the State Government would conduct a three-day gardening skill enhancement programme. A total of 175 training sessions will be organized in eight cities namely Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar. Trainees who enroll in this program will get a compensation of Rs.
New source of income by creating new employment opportunities
An important point was that throughout the Corona pandemic, people became more aware of their nutrition and well-being. Important nutrients, such as key minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and carbohydrates, can be obtained from fruits and vegetables. In addition, proper education on preservation, cultivation and improvement of horticultural produce is necessary to ensure that urban dwellers have access to unpolluted and fresh produce at their doorsteps.
